B.C. administers five millionth COVID-19 vaccine

B.C. surpassed another pandemic milestone today: its five millionth COVID-19 vaccine dose.
To date, 5,002,916 doses of Pfizer-BioNTech, Moderna and AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccines have been administered in B.C.; 1,421,506 of those are second doses.
This means that 78.4 per cent of all adults in B.C. and 77.1 per cent of those aged 12 and older have received their first dose of a vaccine. In addition, 32.8 per cent of adults and 30.6 per cent of those aged 12-plus have received their second dose.
B.C. health authorities reported 44 new cases of COVID-19 today. Since the pandemic began, B.C. has recorded 147,621 cases.
Of the new cases, 12 are in the Vancouver Coastal Health region (including Richmond), 17 in the Fraser Health region, one in the Island Health region and 14 in the Interior Health region. There are no new cases in the Northern Health region.
There are 816 active cases of COVID-19 in B.C. and 108 of those people are hospitalized, 34 of whom are in intensive care.
There were no new virus-related deaths reported today, for the second day in a row.
Active outbreaks continue at five long-term care, assisted living and independent living facilities—including Richmond’s Minoru Residence—and two acute care facilities.
